Pray For The Church

Jul 29, 2018    Jason Rogers    John 17

In this text Jesus prayed for Himself, for His disciples, and for His church. Jesus’ whole life and purpose was to fulfill the will of His Father God and to accomplish all that was required to redeem lost people from the grip of Satan, to free them from the sin that bound them and would result in their eternal separation from God.
Jason reviewed the history of the disciples, Judas was a liar, thief, betrayer, Peter was a fisherman who failed terribly and denied Christ three times, Thomas was unconvinced, Matthew was a tax collector and not honest in his dealings, etc. All were fallen humans but they were all chosen by Jesus to be His followers and to ultimately be entrusted to be apostles and bring the church into being. When they believed Jesus was God’s son, the Holy Spirit dwelled in them, transforming their lives forever. All gave powerful witness to the Gospel. Jesus prayed for them in this transformation and as He taught them He gave them God’s word to equip them to serve Him. That same word is ours in the Bible.
Jesus prayed for His church.
